Public re:Kreators event in Bucharest in collaboration with the local partners NOD Makerspace & MATER
A Case Study on the Former Cotton Factory: an Urban Regeneration Process. Guided by a vision, Twisted by the Context
When? Tuesday 31 October at 19:00 - 20:30
Where? MATER, 160 Splaiul Unirii, Bucharest
We currently observe that in Bucharest many initiatives which had been seen emerging (after 2008) as innovative and which created high hopes for alternative area transformation are shrunk in energy, aims and visibility. Why is this happening? What are the causes of this shrinking? Is Cotton Industry in danger of the same destiny? What can we learn from this and from other similar initiatives around Europe?
After 2 years of developing various projects in the former Bucharest Cotton Factory, it is time to draw a line and see where we currently stand. Even though our growth has been better than initially estimated, without other types of partners, our effort in this process will be capped. Will we reach the limit of human and material resources?
The debate will bring more light on how bottom up initiatives can secure a proper balance between: community organisation, cooperation with relevant urban actors and financial resources.
The debate will conclude the re:Kreators annual meeting aimed at strengthening the cooperation of its members, exchanging knowledge and giving fresh perspective and feedback on the challenges and opportunities existing at Cotton Industry.
The international and local partners will gather @mater events area and have a 4x4 bridging debate, starting from 19:00.
During this debate the re:Kreators member Levente Polyak will also present shortly the book Funding the Cooperative City - which represents the product of an intense research around various European study cases.
